SD cards are a type of memory cards used by Verdigris to enable data acquisition and delivery to the Verdigris cloud. They need to be replaced if they’ve failed.

How do you know it’s failing?

When the SD card fails, Verdigris IoT Device Management report will provide an "Undetected" flag for the affected Verdigris Data Gateway ("Gateway").

Verdigris Data Gateways are resilient and provides a temporary fallback mechanism that stores data in the internal EMMC (Embedded MultiMediaCard) for weeks. To activate this feature, follow steps 1 - 4 in the "How to validate whether the SD replacement was successful?" section below and turn "OFF" the SD card switch.

However, we advise to replace the SD card as soon as possible to avoid future data interruptions.

How to successfully replace SD cards in the field?

To start the replacement process, please work with your Customer Success Manager to initiate the process.

Note: SD card swaps can be performed without needing to de-energize the panels.

Once the new SD card arrives, follow a few simple steps below:

  1. Locate the Gateway that requires an SD card replacement

  2. Turn OFF the Gateway by turning the breaker powering the Gateway to the OFF position or by toggling the Power switch at the bottom of the Gateway to “0” position

  3. Gently push and remove the SD card from the “µSD CARD” slot

  4. Insert the new SD card (a subtle click will ensure it is securely installed)

  5. Turn ON the Gateway

How to validate whether the SD replacement was successful?

Once installed, navigate to the Verdigris setup tool using your smart device (smartphone or laptop) by following the steps below:

  1. Turn ON the Verdigris Gateway Power switch to 1

  2. Using your smart device, locate and connect to the Verdigris Gateway hotspot (Wi-Fi network)

    1. Network name: “Verdigris- BBEXXXXXXXX” - should match the serial number located on the side of the Gateway.

    2. For successful hotspot connection, it may be necessary to disconnect the regular mobile data network on your mobile device by switching to airplane mode.

  3. Open your preferred web browser and navigate to URL: connect.verdigris.co (or IP address: 192.168.8.1). The system should automatically connect to the setup screen.

  4. Navigate to Main Menu > System Settings > SD Card

  5. If successful, you will see the screen below with SD card information, and the next IoT Device Management reports should replace the "Undetected" flag with "OK"

Note: The SD card switch may be turned "OFF" to activate the EMMC fallback mechanism. Slide the switch to turn it "ON" and wait for 60 seconds.

  6. If unsuccessful, you may see the screen below. In this case, Turn OFF the Verdigris Gateway Power switch to 0, and start again with Step 1.
